We are delighted to announce the appointment of Jonathan Batty as Senior cricket coach at Purley.

Jonathan (JB) is a former player for Surrey CCC and latterly Gloucestershire CCC. He played as wicket-keeper batsman often opening the batting.

JB was a regular fixture in the all-conquering Surrey side around the turn of the century when they won 3 County Championship titles. He captained Surrey in 2004 and was awarded a “benefit year” in 2009.

JB equalled the world record for the most catches in an innings, with 8 against Kent in 2004 and then shortly afterwards broke the world record for the most catches in a match with 11 against Lancashire.

Ian Botham is quoted as having described JB as “the best wicket-keeper batsman never to have played for England”.

JB is a very experienced cricket coach having been a member of the coaching team for the England Development Programme (U17), coach at Gloucestershire and the England Women’s Squad. He is now a teacher of Geology and the Head of Cricket at Caterham School.
